Atheism means "without gods" (from Greek,
a-, "without," theos, "god"). There are many different types of
people who disbelieve in various gods or who believe in ideals most may not,
but the term "Atheist" means someone who disbelieves in any gods.
Is Atheism a religion? This is a common
misconception. Atheism, agnosticism, and freethinking are not religions;
they are the absence of religion.
Check the
Glossary for Atheist-related terms. While holding different points
of view, it is often that Atheists and other intellectual sorts such as
Agnostics, Humanists, Freethinkers, and others are closely linked in their
desires to retain their right to believe what they choose and not be forced
to endure the beliefs of others. |
