Here follows the basics you need to know to
understand what this site is all about.
Freedom and Common
Sense
I've always been an ardent supporter of freedom of expression and freedom of, and from, religion. Truth be told, if you want to believe in (to
paraphrase George Carlin) "an invisible man who lives up in the sky, and
loves you, and watches over everything you do," well, that's your business.
I respect your right to choose to believe whatever you wish to believe.
Yes,
I DO respect anyone's right to believe in such stuff... but that doesn't
mean I respect the stuff. Beliefs of those sorts are, to me, silly and inane. Grown people who surrender
their
intelligence and common sense to believe in that sort of thing is
tantamount to adults who believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the
Tooth Fairy. They're all fanciful mythologies, maybe even fun at times, but
that's all they are. Yes, I know, there are many who would disagree with
me... which is why it's a good thing this is my Web site and my opinions.
I'm not telling my visiting religious friends you how to think... I'm only
suggesting that they DO think... AT ALL.

Is This The Site For You?
However, if you are that type, you're on the wrong Web site. There are
better places for you. I don't care what you have to say. I don't care about
your biblical bedtime stories. I don't care that your mission is to convert
me or proclaim me Satan's follower or kill me or ridicule me or whatever it
is you want to do. I don't care about the long-winded, nasty,
scare-me-with-god emails you're bound to send me telling me how I'm going to
burn in hell (in fact, I'll get a kick out of them and post them here for
all of the other Atheists to laugh at!).
So, if you're a hard-core religionist, the
contents here will only likely annoy you. While you're welcome to visit anyway,
and maybe learn a little bit about the truth (which doesn't include
an invisible man who lives up in the sky and loves you and watches over
everything you do), I'm not here to shove it down your throat or up your keister, like so many door-to-door Xian meatballs like to do. No, I'm here for the Atheists, and for those who are
investigating Atheism... and for those who have come to realize that they
aren't willing to blindly live fairy tales any longer.
What is "Militant Atheism?"
"Militant Atheism" is a term usually referring to Atheists who crusade
to convert people to their beliefs, and often Atheists who believe the
United States should be a wholly godless society where religion is outlawed.
This is not me, and in fact you'll be hard-pressed to find any Atheists who
think that way. I've never met an Atheist who wanted to outlaw religion;
rather, Atheists respect an individual's right to believe in whatever he
wishes, and practice any religion he wishes, so long as it doesn't infringe
upon others. This is in stark contrast to the out of control Xians who believe the United States is
an Xian nation and the
rest of us who don't believe should get the hell out.
Atheists rarely try to
"convert" people
to their beliefs. That statement makes Atheism sound like a religion, and it
isn't. It's the complete lack of religion and the embracing of logic,
reason, intelligence, common sense, and science instead of backward
thinking, blind belief, robotic behavior, and mythology.
For me, "militant Atheism" is fierce
adherent to Atheism in the name of logic, reason, intelligence, and sanity.
In a world where religionists are working to force their versions of
insanity into every aspect of our lives, seeking to reshape society into
what they perceive is the society in which we all should live, the
best defense is a good offense. Let's work to educate ourselves and each
other, and stop the insanity from spreading like the thinking disease it is.
Let's ensure the religionists keep their beliefs, rituals, mythology, and
insanity to themselves. In the same way that we don't seek to destroy them,
we certainly can't sit by and let them destroy us.
What I Think
As I said, I respect everyone's right to
believe in whatever they choose. I don't believe in outlawing religion
anymore than outlawing Santa Claus! However, that being said, I do have a
strong desire to see people ditch the religion thing and make the choice to
move into the modern age. The days of worshipping the invisible man is over,
folks. That's all dark ages stuff. It's painful to see so many people
believing in so ridiculous an array of myths and silliness.
I have a vision of a world where more and
more people all the time abandon such foolishness and choose to use the
marvelous organs evolution has given them: their brains. They're up there,
in your heads, and we all have the capacity to use them... even the
meatball Xians who go so far out of their way to convince themselves, much less
others, that their mythology is real and true. |
