(I'd Love to Be) As Heavy As Jesus
Written by Patti Jerome, Ralph Terrana, and Mike Valvano
(Sung by Stoney and Meat Loaf)

Info
Originally appearing on the Rare Earth Stoney and Meat Loaf album, this gospel track didn't appear on later releases of the album but was on a Motown gospel compilation. Regardless, this is a piece of Meat Loaf lore. During the VH1 Storytellers CD, Meat tells the story of when he met the infamous Jim Steinman to audition for the songwriter's play More Than You Deserve. As part of his audition, Meat performed this song; after belting out "I'd Love To Be As Heavy as Jesus," Steinman reportedly commented, referring to Meat's about 400-pound frame, "You look like you're as heavy as TWO Jesuses!" At any rate, his performance got him the part in Steinman's play... and the association between those two rocked and rolled into music history and legend.

Lyrics
I don't want to do nothing or say nothing
That will ever, ever hurt nobody
And I don't want to get nothing for doing something
Til I give something to somebody

I just want to rise above, above that devil's glove
And see God in every single man
I just want to spread joy like that little boy
Who once walked, walked this promised land

And I'd love to be as heavy as Jesus
And I'd love to be as heavy as Jesus

I just gotta be someone, oh free someone
Lord he loves everybody
And I've just got to feel something
A real something deep down inside for somebody

I'll never satisfy, oh, this inner cry
Until I give my everything
Oh, and I will live my whole life through just helping you
And you for the joy, for the joy that it will bring

And I'd love to be as heavy as Jesus
And I'd love to be as heavy as Jesus

Heavy as Jesus
Heavy as Jesus
Heavy as Jesus
Heavy as Jesus
Heavy as Jesus
Heavy as Jesus

Heavy as Jesus Christ
Heavy as Jesus Christ
Heavy as Jesus Christ

And I'd love to be as heavy as Jesus
And I'd love to be as heavy as Jesus
And I'd love to be as heavy as Jesus

Jesus
And I'd love to be as heavy as Jesus
