This is a beautiful ballad about loves long past, and wondering what might have been. It reminds me, in many ways, of the very excellent "Same Auld Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg (where Dan recounts a supposedly true story about meeting an old lover in a grocery store on Christmas Eve; they drink beer in her car and reminisce, and it's obvious both parties are sad in their wonderings about what might have been).
