I love good quotes. I have stacks of quotation books for when I need a particular quote for a particular situation. But sometimes there are those quotes that stand out above and beyond all the rest. A lot of folks out there put up quotes pages that are nothing more than lengthy lists of hundreds or even thousands of quotes--grouped together simply because they sound good. While the following quotes may mean less to you, I'm including only those quotes that have had a profound impact on me, or reflect my personality in some way.

"We had no use for the policy of the Gospels, 'if someone slaps you, just turn the other cheek.' We had shown that anyone who slapped us on our cheek would get his head kicked off."
-Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev

"What makes you or anybody else think we have a civilization?"
-Kurt Vonnegut, when asked on 13 Jun 2001 by Ted Koppel on
Nightline if he thought reality shows signaled the end of civilization

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,  but by the moments that take our breath away."
-Attributed to George Carlin. He says it wasn't him.
